Description
This article uses the Hayden Bridge filtration plant in Eugene, Oregon, to demonstrate how by cross-training operators in plant operations, maintenance of structures and equipment, and certified laboratory sampling and analyses, any utility can ensure that its employees have the technical capability to complete water production and water quality monitoring tasks cost-effectively. Specific topics discussed are: job shift rotation as a key to success; how operator tasks offer variety; and, the challenges and benefits presented by cross-training. Includes tables, figure.
